The Jomon wares were excavated from the ruins in Yao City; it is regarded as people lived here from 3000 years ago.
These Jomon wares assure that path of human exchanges with Kibi country (today's Okayama Pref.), which had high-level culture at that time. We can learn how prosperous ancient people's industrial and cultural activities were from these Jomon wares; it says this region has developed from long time ago. |

Shinso Temple's believers built Terauchi Town at Muromachi Era; Saint Rennyo built Kyuhouji-Terauchi Town. Yao City has prospered as a traffic and economical location from ancient times. It was an appearance of self-government city formed by 16th century. |

Otaiya Market had been held 11th and 27th every month between Kyuhouji temple (today's Kensyoji) and Yao temple (today's Daishinji). The beginning of this market is not clear but 27th is the day before the anniversary of Saint Shinran's death, so it was held for the people who came to hold memorial service for Jyodo-Shinsyu. They could buy all kinds of goods at that market.
Nowadays Otaiya Market is very different from old days, but people can feel old day's atmosphere on the circumference of Daishinji. |

The replace work of the Yamato River had begun at February 1704, and then it had been completed by October in the same year. That was a great work but it finished very quickly.
People were suffered from floods of the Yamato River at that time; otherwise Naka Jinbei - many farmers and magistrate Mannen Chojuro had done this replace work. There were some legends about this. Some said this work must be "Act of Fox", this means that replace work of the Yamato River was so great at all. |

After the replace work of the Yamato River, Kawachi-Cotton had been regularly produced in the farmhouse as a side job. That was exhibited to Cotton fair in Meiji Era, but it was gone out of production in the early yeas of Taisyo Era 'cause of competition with foreign products. But nowadays people started to produce Kawachi-Cotton. |

Commerce has also prospered in Yao for many years. Such as an entrance town of the temples, important traffic point of roads and waterways, there were many cotton and fertilizer wholesale shops on the Omotemachi-street.
Opening of two railroads in Meiji and Taisho Era was the opportunity of commerce in recent years; circumference of these stations had mainly developed.
Trunk roads are constructed well, so that the face of new commerce will be born by recently. |

The industry of Yao has progressed mainly on the brush and the twisting threads. The twisting threads industry inherited tradition of Kawachi-Cottons; the brush industry had been trained as a side job of farmers. Both of them had been Self-management and independent gradually, they have turned into a specific local industry. Especially the toothbrush was temporarily account for 80% of market share.
Probably, such industries are bases for the present development. We spare no efforts to make any products. |

Yao, which adjoins Osaka City and Nara Prefecture, has developed as an important traffic point for many years. Osaka railroad (JR-Yamatoji line) was opened in 1890; Osaka Electric Railroad (Kintetsu-Osaka line) was opened in 1924. These networks of railroads have made various industries' way into Yao, and are the main traffic network. |

In 1956, Yao Airport was opened as the first private airport in Japan. It is an airfield only for light planes, and there is the most number of times of landing and departure in Japan. There are more than 10 airlines there, and amateur pilots are trained.
There is a fire department of Osaka City and the base of Japan Coast Guard, so that give us the function as a prevention base of disaster.
In the future, practical use of this airport is increasingly expected to the location and training of frontier industries that should be developed more in Yao. |
